yesterday when mowing the grass, david apparently hit a bird. yes, the bird died. and the girls found it. they were enthralled by the "hurt" birdie, and after church today were asking if they could go see it when we got home. david & i both had explained yesterday that the bird was dead, but since they are still trying to grasp the concept of death...it didn't sink in. so of course they were inspecting it when we got home.
a while later i was in the house working on some stuff in the girls room. chloe came in and here is the conversation that took place:
chloe: mom are you SO upset about the dead birdie?
me: no, chloe, i'm really not.
chloe: why, because he will be in heaven with Jesus soon?
me: well, he is already in heaven with Jesus.
chloe: NO HE'S NOT, he's out there on the ground.
it was all i could do not to laugh because she was VERY serious when she said that to me. of course, i tried to explain about our earthly bodies and such...but i could see in her eyes that she thought i was crazy b/c that bird is still out there on the ground.
