Two-Wheel Bikes

It seems like yesterday they were two years old and riding bikes w/ training wheels on our back deck. But 2 weeks ago they learned to ride their bikes...for real...no training wheels. Apparently, Chloe got it in her head that she was going to conquer the "two-wheel bike." She set out with her helmet on and arms & legs covered. She fell down. And much to our surprise, got right back up to try again. You see, most of the time small injuries are MAJOR to her...but not this day...she was on a mission. David was outside with her for about 30 minutes before I realized what was going on. But once I was let in on the secret, I grabbed the camera and waited...because I knew it wouldn't be too long and she would be riding down the road. Sure enough, within an hour of starting, she was riding on her own. What we didn't expect was for Emmi to pick up the bike, hop on and ride down the street on her first try! Yep, Chloe had gone in the house to get something, and Emmi decided she could do it too. She picked up the bike and with no help at all peddled her way to a 5-year-olds dream. That also meant that David had to go to the shed and get the OTHER bike out -- thank goodness we HAD another bike!

For the past two weeks, the minute they get off the bus they cannot wait to change into play clothes and get outside to ride their bikes. They have had their share of crashes. Their knees & elbows have the scabs to prove it...but they are having a blast. We are fortunate to live on a street with very little (to no) traffic, so they are able to ride in the street -- which is MUCH better than just the driveway. They are thrilled with their new found freedom.

The cutest thing of all is that they call them their "two-wheel bikes." Literally. So funny to hear, "mom, i'm going to ride my two-wheel bike."

Ride little girls. Ride.
