Two teeth in one day

i cannot believe i am writing a post about losing teeth and the tooth fairy. i must say, i did not think that day would come so quickly. however, it is true. chloe lost both her bottom front teeth today. and i did the honors of pulling both of them. a few weeks ago, she informed me that her tooth was loose. this fact was confirmed by my mother, the dental hygienist. i did feel the loose tooth, but it wasn't THAT loose so i didn't think much of it. then about 2 weeks ago, while at my parent's house, chloe asked me to feel her tooth again...and it was much more loose, and kind of weird to feel her tooth wiggle so much. in fact, it was BOTH teeth that were now loose.

fast forward to this afternoon. we were at my mom's house and once again we had to look at her teeth. except this time they were SO loose they practically were bending all the way forward. when i told chloe we needed to pull them out, she immediately started crying. you see, chloe doesn't do well AT ALL when it comes to any type of physical issues. the shear thoughts cause her great anxiety. funny thing is, she will jump in the air and land on her knees on our hardwood floors and not even flinch. but just mention having to perform any type of physical act like removing a splinter and she will literally freak. sometimes this even applies to washing her hair & body. although she has come a LONG way in the bathing area...she still doesn't like to have to be washed. therefore, her tears were totally expected. the tooth was so tiny i couldn't get my fingers around it enough to pull, so my mom went and got a wash rag. chloe sat on aunt robin's lap while my mom held her head and i got a grip on the tooth. she didn't even know it was out until we told her, and then she started screaming....and she was NOT letting me pull the other one. even after she calmed down, she was not up for the other one coming out. however, the other one was even more loose than the one i pulled and it needed to come out. but for that time being, i was giving her a break. we put her tooth in a ziploc baggie and she carried it to the car as we headed home.

as we rode in the car i explained to her that we really needed to pull the other tooth too. she was liking the idea of the tooth fairy leaving her DOUBLE money for 2 teeth. some bravery rose up in her and she started trying to pull the dangling tooth herself. mind you, we are still in the car. we had to stop by the ATM (some cash was needed since we had not expected this tooth fairy necessity in advance) and then i needed my 2 sunday newspapers (coupons). as we were pulling into the local exxon station, chloe begins screaming at the top of her lungs, "get it out, get it out. pull it. pull it." as david was trying to park, she was escalating at lightning speed. she was freaked out. she almost pulled the tooth out herself, it was bleeding profusely and she was in full panic mode. by the time david parked & i found a tissue and hopped out of the car to get to her she was screaming with shrieks of terror. i'm surprised folks from all over didn't come running our way...it was THAT bad. at this point emmi is crying too b/c chloe's screams have scared her terribly. i couldn't get back there fast enough. and of course, the door was locked so i had to open my door again to get it unlocked, all the while both children are having all out meltdowns. once i got to her, within seconds i soaked up the blood and pulled out the 2nd tooth. whew. everyone was ok. the screams stopped and chloe was happy as could be.

chloe is sleeping soundly and the tooth fairy has already visited. however, there was another little issue. i should have expected this. it is an issue that arose at christmas 2 years ago when emmi was two years old -- and has continued ever since. emmi is VERY opposed to santa (or any other person/animal/fairy) coming into our house. she doesn't care about the gifts these folks leave her. keep them for all she cares. Needless to say, emmi was not up for sleeping in her bed tonight b/c she was not happy that the tooth fairy was going to be entering the room to get chloe's teeth. trust me, this wasn't just a scheme on her part to sleep in our bed...you could see the fear in her face & eyes. she didn't want to be anywhere near when the tooth fairy entered her bedroom. SO she is tucked in MY bed sleeping as i write. little does she know that she will be closer to the tooth fairy there than she would have been on her top bunk :0)

What a beautiful story. I can't believe how grown up the girls are. It seems like just yesterday they were arriving in their new home. You and David have done a wonderful job with them. God has truley blessed you, David and the girls.

How precious. I can't believe they are old enough to be losing teeth, either! Thanks for posting.
