Gotcha Day

The day has come. We left the hotel at 9:20am this morning to head for the orphanage. It was a neat drive. The orphanage is located on the outskirts of Taipei and seemed like a small suburb or something. When we arrived, there was another family upstairs picking up their baby, so we were seated in a room downstairs to wait while they brought Chloe & Emmi to us. I finally saw someone walking toward the room, and I knew she was holding Chloe. She came in with her and she had the blanket we had sent a few months ago. Chloe was very reluctant and serious, and she did not want to come to me at all. I got a toy out and we finally coaxed her to come. She REALLY liked my glasses, and wanted to touch my hair. She was still very serious and I was afraid she was going to cry, but she didn’t. About 5 minutes later, they brought Emmi down to us. She is much more laid back and was just enjoying the attention. We were at the orphanage for all of about 35 minutes. They gave us formula, books and info about their schedules. We also got to see the nursery and take some pictures of the other babies for my friends back home.

We got in the car and headed back toward town. I put a pacifier in Emmi’s mouth and she took to it immediately. Chloe has really taken to David…which is a good thing because she is heavy! We made a brief stop by the Chang Kai Sheck Memorial before we came back to the hotel. Emmi fell asleep while we were walking around. A Taiwanese lady saw me holding her and couldn’t believe that we had just picked her up. She said she looked so comfortable and part of the family.

This afternoon we fed them and they slept. Emmi slept for almost 3 hours and Chloe for about 2. They are very pleasant and we have yet to hear them cry.

We go back to the orphanage tomorrow afternoon to meet the birthmothers, then our AIT appointment is Wednesday.
